Tired of standing in long lines to see Santa Claus at the Mall? Then the Griffith Historical Society’s Santa in the Caboose is just what you’re looking for. This year, Santa will be visiting with children in the Society’s transfer caboose from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 13th and 20th, and from noon to 4 p.m. on December 14th. “We believe that we offer a unique Santa experience,” says Karen Kulinski, Society vice-president. “Instead of standing in line, families wait to see Santa in our World War II troopsleeper car, which is equipped with chairs.” Spike, the Reindeer Engineer, who drives Santa’s train, hangs out in the car to visit with the children and elves are on hand to help entertain the little ones while they’re waiting. “When their turn comes, each family then has a private visit with Santa in our caboose,” explains Kulinski. “Santa sits on a specially-made, over-sized bench, which allows Mom or Dad to sit next to him with nervous little ones so a photo can be taken.” Low-cost digital photo packages will again be available, with photo sizes ranging from wallets to 8 x 10’s. After their visit, families are invited to visit the Depot for complimentary hot chocolate and cookies. On the weekend of December 13th and 14th, the Society will be again be holding their holiday bake sale in the Depot, featuring home-baked goodies. The Society’s 300-page Centennial History Book will also be available for holiday gift-giving. Both Santa in the Caboose and the Christmas sale are fund- raising activities for the Griffith Historical Society. For further information, contact Ev, at 924-4026.
